Digital Switchover ProgramProject Value: $200 million

Services

Digital terrestrial television in Australia phased out analogue PAL transmissions during 2010 to 2013. The transition from analogue to digital television was coordinated by the Digital Switchover Taskforce operating under the Federal Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.  The Household Assistance Scheme (HAS) and Satellite Subsidy Scheme (SSS) were rolled out to the remote, regional and metropolitan regions of Australia over a three year period. Tenders were issued bi-annually with each work package covering a section of Australia.

As General Manager, Digital for the Skybridge Group, one of the major contractors delivering the program, the scope of work included:

  • Project management of the program throughout metropolitan, regional and remote regions of Australia for the services undertaken by the Skybridge Group.
  • Contract management and the development of the tenders, contact negotiation and contract management.
  • IT development and the configuration of a workflow management system for sub-contractors, end users and service providers to access through a mobile application without the need for manually exchanging data between systems.
  • Resource management to resource, train and mentor 100 employees and 400 subcontractor teams.
  • Stakeholder engagement managing the expectations of the Commonwealth Government, the customers, the subcontractors, employees and senior business executives. Due to the remote regions of Australia to which some of the installations were delivered language, cultural differences, tyranny of distances, no internet access, poor weather and physical obstacles were some of the hurdles managed over the three years.
